Description of the plant:

Corn is a hardy plant with a height of 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 meters. The stem is strong, broad with linear leaves. Male and female flowers are separate on the stalk. Male flowers are placed to form a panicle at the top of the stem, while the female flowers are in the axils of lower leaves and emerge between the leaves and stems. During flowering filamentary female flowers portrude from the leaf sheath which is produced in pairs, and they are called “corn silk”.

It has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for many ailments and is still used today in several different applications. Corn silk is high in several nutrients, including vitamin K, and can be combined with other herbs for different types of treatment, particularly those
involving problems of the urinary tract. The cornsilk herb is a soothing diuretic that can benefit the urinary tract in numerous ways. It can be given to children as a method of treating enuresis more commonly known as bedwetting. It is also a common alternative to antibiotics when treating a urinary infection resulting from bacteria. Cornsilk is sometimes used to treat and prevent the development of kidney stones in adults. Infections of the kidney can also be treated by taking cornsilk daily. Because of its effect on the kidneys, research indicates that the herb can help lower high blood pressure in the circulatory system. Because of its properties, corn silk is used in treating obesity.
